ROSEMEAD, Calif., September 16, 2012 — Southern California Edison (SCE) will open a water and ice distribution center today for customers impacted by the power outage affecting parts of Covina and West Covina.

The center, at Palm View Park, 1340 E. Puente Ave., West Covina, 91780, will be open from 11 a.m. until supplies are no longer available.

At 4:02 p.m. Saturday, an SCE substation located at Puente and Vincent avenues in West Covina experienced a catastrophic equipment failure, and fire inside the substation causing a power outage affecting 2,013 customers. Those customers may experience fluctuations in their service today until the issue is resolved.

As of 8 a.m. this morning, approximately 1,300 customers are still without power.

SCE restoration and repair personnel are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore service to those customers currently affected in the West Covina and Covina area. SCE is reminding customers in the area their electric service could be restored and interrupted throughout the morning and afternoon hours as repair work is completed by SCE personnel.
