ROSEMEAD, Calif., Oct. 1, 2008 —Southern California Edison (SCE) is offering new variable-flow pool pumps to Palm Desert residents that are 70 to 90 percent more efficient than standard pumps. The program is part of the Palm Desert “Set to Save” energy efficiency partnership between California’s investor-owned utilities and the city. The new pumps can save homeowners as much as $100 a month on their electricity bills.
It only takes one visit to the program’s Web site or a phone call for residents to arrange the purchase and installation of the pool pump for a total of $735 (a savings of up to $1,400). Palm Desert residents who wish to participate can sign up at www.settosave.com or by calling 1-800-736-4777. The offer is available through Dec. 31, 2008, or until program funds have been exhausted. SCE customers outside the city of Palm Desert can find rebates for pool pumps and other energy-saving devices at www.sce.com/rebatesandsavings.
The Palm Desert partnership is a unique pilot project for modeling energy efficiency programs that can be replicated in other communities.
