ROSEMEAD, Calif., June 11, 2008 – The Southern California Edison (SCE) Board of Directors has elected Ross Ridenoure senior vice president and chief nuclear officer, effective June 1, 2008. In his new role, Ridenoure will be responsible for all operational, engineering and regulatory aspects of SCE’s nuclear power program. He succeeds Dick Rosenblum who has retired after 31 years of service at SCE.
Ridenoure joined SCE in December 2007 as vice president and site manager of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station near San Clemente, CA. SCE is the plant’s operator and owns a 78.21-percent stake in San Onofre. The plant’s other owners are San Diego Gas & Electric (20 percent) and the City of Riverside (1.79 percent).
“We are pleased to have Ross’ leadership of our nuclear power business at this very important juncture in San Onofre’s history,” said Al Fohrer, SCE chairman and chief executive officer. “The plant is a key element of our plan to meet the growing energy demands of our region while reducing the state’s greenhouse gas emissions.”
Ridenoure came to SCE from the Omaha Public Power District where he was the vice president and chief nuclear officer with overall responsibility for the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station. Prior to joining Omaha Power, he served on nuclear powered submarines for eight years in the U.S. Navy’s nuclear power program. He recently retired from the Navy after more than 29 years of active and reserve service.
Ridenoure’s professional affiliations include chairmanship of the board of directors for the Utilities Services Alliance, and membership of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations executive advisory group and of SCE’s nuclear oversight board. Additionally, he has served as a nuclear operations instructor for Illinois Power and for the Westinghouse Electric Company, a leading nuclear power plant manufacturer.
Ridenoure holds undergraduate degrees in sociology and nuclear engineering technology from Excelsior College and an MBA from the University of Nebraska.
