ROSEMEAD, Calif., Nov. 1, 2011 – Southern California Edison (SCE) is offering 30-50 percent discounts on ultra energy-efficient lighting fixtures at 10 stores in its service area under The Home Depot banner. The fixtures usually sell for $10 to $15; with the discount, they are priced as low as $5.
“This incentive program with The Home Depot is another way SCE partners with its customers and area retailers to empower consumers to make smarter energy-efficiency choices,” said Gene Rodrigues, SCE’s director of Energy Efficiency and Customer Solar. “If we find that people are receptive to this particular way of saving money on their electricity bills, we will expand it to include more lighting products in more retail locations.”
The ceiling fixtures are for special “pin in” compact fluorescent lamps, or CFLs, that reduce energy usage up to 75 percent over regular incandescent light bulbs. They come in several styles and finishes. Discounts under the yearlong pilot program are taken at the register: no coupons or mail-in rebates required, limit five CFLs per customer. SCE hopes such incentives will attract more customers to ENERGY STAR-labeled lighting.

SCE, which leads the nation in energy efficiency, also buys down the cost of CFLs at thousands of retail locations in its service territory to help increase adoption of the money-saving bulbs, and offers free Lamp Exchange events.
