ROSEMEAD, Calif., May 27, 2014 — In an effort to better engage one of its largest and fastest-growing customer bases, Southern California Edison (SCE) has launched SCE en Español to enhance its communication with Spanish-language customers about outages, programs and rebates as well as information about the company.
There are an estimated 6.7 million Hispanic customers in SCE’s service territory, making up more than 46 percent of the utility’s 14 million customers.
“The new Twitter channel will allow customers to reach us during an outage event and get real-time updates about what’s happening in their community,” said Veronica Gutierrez, vice president of Local Public Affairs. “SCE en Español will serve Spanish-language communities that are the fastest-growing users of social media.”
A recent report by the Pew Hispanic Trends Report shows that about 68 percent of Latino internet users say they use Facebook, Twitter or other social networking sites.
Spanish-language journalists will also see in-language news stories, b-roll and press releases shared on the Twitter channel.
