ROSEMEAD, Calif., April 22, 2005—The Southern California Edison (SCE) Board of Directors has promoted Pedro Pizarro from vice president to senior vice president of power procurement, effective May 1.
Pizarro oversees the procurement function of SCE’s energy supply and management department, as well as its “qualifying facilities” resources division, which manages the utility’s contracts with renewable generators such as wind and solar. Pizarro joined SCE in 1999 and has served in a variety of roles, including strategic planning and business development.
“Pedro’s role is a vital one if we are to continue providing power reliably and affordably to our customers,” said Al Fohrer, chief executive officer for SCE. “We value his leadership as we work to supply the ever-increasing demand for electricity in California.”
Additionally, Pizarro is the general manager of Edison Carrier Solutions, a division of the utility providing wholesale broadband services to telecommunications carriers.
Prior to joining SCE, Pizarro was a senior engagement manager with McKinsey & Company in Los Angeles, where he provided management consulting services to energy, technology, engineering services, and banking clients. He developed corporate strategy, handled mergers and acquisitions, instituted performance improvement processes, and addressed operation and organizational issues.
Pizarro is a trustee of the House Ear Institute and a director of the Colburn School of Performing Arts.
Pizarro earned a bachelor’s degree (magna cum laude) in chemistry from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in chemical physics from Caltech.
