ROSEMEAD, Calif., Feb. 17, 2005—The Boards of Directors of Edison International and Southern California Edison announced today that Kenneth Stewart has been elected to the newly created position of vice president and chief ethics and compliance officer, effective immediately. Stewart will report to both Edison International Chairman and CEO John Bryson and Southern California Edison CEO Al Fohrer.
In his new role, Stewart will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s ethics and compliance programs, overseeing the company’s commitment to integrity as its paramount value.
Commenting on the appointment, Bryson said, “We are delighted to have Ken Stewart assume this role to reaffirm our commitment to maintain the highest standards of business ethics and legal compliance in all of our business activities and to enhance our ethics and compliance programs.” “With more than a decade of experience and clear understanding of the importance of this crucial area, Ken is a natural fit for this position,” Fohrer said.
Prior to this appointment, Stewart served as assistant general counsel of Edison International and Southern California Edison. Stewart first joined Southern California Edison’s law department in 1980. From 1984 to 1987, Stewart served as vice president and general counsel of Financial Market Services, Inc. Stewart returned to SCE in 1987, and in 1992 was elected assistant general counsel of both companies. While in the law department, Stewart was heavily engaged for many years in the ethics and corporate governance fields.
Stewart received a bachelor’s degree in 1975 from Brigham Young University where he graduated summa cum laude with honors. He received his doctor of jurisprudence degree in 1978 from Brigham Young University Law School where he graduated magna cum laude and was an editor on the law review.
Stewart and his wife, Deborah, live in Walnut, California. They have five grown children and three grandchildren.
