ROSEMEAD, Calif., July 9, 2008 — Edison International, the parent company of utility Southern California Edison (SCE), today announced its support for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s call for higher state mathematics standards.

“As a major California employer, SCE understands and appreciates the importance of a well-trained and educated workforce,” said John E. Bryson, chairman and chief executive officer of Edison International. “Governor Schwarzenegger’s call for higher educational standards is to be commended.”

SCE believes higher level math skills are an essential component of a student’s academic advancement and can be an important contributor to an employee’s professional success. The company agrees with Schwarzenegger that this is an issue worthy of consideration and support and that the California State Board of Education is the appropriate body to determine at what testing level a student should be evaluated.
