ROSEMEAD, Calif., Aug. 17, 2021 — Edison International recently announced 12 winners of the first Lineworker Scholarship to help increase diversity in skilled trades.

The inaugural scholarship is focused on attracting Black talent in the craft lineworker space. Awardees will attend Los Angeles Trade-Technical College’s six-month program to receive a Powerline Mechanic Certificate (additional classes may be needed for required prerequisites) and another program to obtain their Class A license. Tuition and tools will be covered by the scholarship as well as support services as needed, such as transportation and childcare.

“We are thrilled to provide this opportunity to 12 outstanding candidates,” said Caroline Choi, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs for Edison International and Southern California Edison. “SCE serves one of the most diverse populations in the country and it’s important our workforce reflects that. I look forward to seeing the amazing things these scholars will accomplish throughout the program.”
