ROSEMEAD, Calif., April 27, 2006 – Edison International (NYSE:EIX) and Southern California Edison today announced that Charles B. Curtis, president of the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), a private foundation engaged in national security issues, has joined the boards of directors of both companies.
“Charles Curtis brings an exceptional breadth of experience to our boards,” said John Bryson, chairman of Edison International and Southern California Edison. “His leadership in the fields of energy, government, finance and law will serve our customers and shareholders extremely well.”
Curtis served as deputy secretary of the United States Department of Energy from 1994 to 1997 and as chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission from 1977 to 1981. He has also held positions on the staffs of the U.S. House of representatives, the U.S. Treasury, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Curtis is a lawyer with 15 years experience in private practice and more than 18 years in government service. Prior to his current role as president and chief operating officer of NTI, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the United Nations Foundation. Curtis was a partner in Hogan & Hartson, a Washington, D.C.-based international law firm.
He currently is trustee of the Putnam Funds, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the National Academics Committee on Scientific Communication and National Security and the Advisory Board of the Applied Physics Laboratory of Johns Hopkins University. He is a former member of the Defense Policy Board of the U.S. Department of Defense and the board of directors of the Gas Technology Institute, as well as a former member of the Advisory Council of the Electric Power Research Institute.
A resident of Bethesda, Maryland, Curtis earned his B.S. and B.A. degrees at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and his J.D. degree at the Boston University School of Law. He is married to Rochelle Elaine Curtis. They have one married son and a grandson.
