ROSEMEAD, Calif., Sept. 13, 2000-Southern California Edison customers with swimming pools can now qualify for up to $90 in 2001 by participating in SCE's new Pool Efficiency Program (PEP!).

The new program rewards residential customers who set their pool pump timers to operate during off-peak hours (6 p.m. to 12 p.m.) and those who install qualifying energy-efficient pool pumps or motors.

To participate in the pool pump timer element of PEP!, customers must set their timers so the pumps run when the demand for electricity is lower.  Up to $40 ($10 per month) is offered for setting timers to off-peak hours June 1, 2001 through September 31, 2001.  Homeowners or renters with a pool must have a pump with a one or more horsepower motor, and a timing device, and be willing to have their settings verified by an SCE inspector.

Starting next January, pool owners shopping for a new pump or a motor for an existing pump can qualify for a rebate.  SCE will offer a rebate of up to $50, depending on the size and type of pump or motor, to residential customers who purchase qualifying, energy-efficient models.

Participation is limited, and available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Customers can indicate their interest in either or both programs by calling a 24-hour automated hot line, 1-800-470-2365, or visiting www.sce.com.   An SCE account number is required.

This new program is among a variety of ongoing energy efficiency and other assistance programs SCE offers.  For more information, call 1-800-736-4777 weekdays during business hours.
