ROSEMEAD, Calif., March 17, 2010 — Southern California Edison (SCE) customers   will be able to swap their old, inefficient lamps for new energy-saving ones during “Operation Lamp Exchange” on March 27 and 28 in Victorville.

The “Operation Lamp Exchange” event will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28 at The Mall of Victor Valley, 14400 Bear Valley Rd., Victorville.

“This innovative event is a great way to be green while saving some green,” said Gene Rodrigues, director of SCE’s Energy Efficiency Division. “If every American replaced just one regular incandescent bulb with an efficient one, we would save enough energy to light more than 2.5 million homes for a year.”

Halogen torchieres, desk lamps, table lamps and floor lamps are eligible for the exchange. Customers do not need to bring lamp shades. The offer is open only to SCE residential customers, who must bring a copy of their bill and/or their driver’s license showing a ZIP code that falls within SCE territory. There is a limit of 10 lamps per household while supplies last.  The city of Victorville, Desert Community Bank and the Mojave Air Quality Management District are partners with SCE in the program.

The energy-efficiency event promotes the use of ENERGY STAR-labeled lamps and compact fluorescent bulbs, which use a fraction of the energy of traditional fixtures and incandescent bulbs. In the past five years, “Operation Lamp Exchange” and other SCE programs have saved 6.8 billion kilowatt-hours – enough energy to power 965,000 average Southern California homes for an entire year. In this period, the programs have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 3.4 million metric tons – the equivalent of removing 650,000 cars from the road. During the next three years, SCE will help customers save an additional 4.9 billion kilowatt-hours, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by another 2.4 million metric tons.

Customers can visit www.scelampexchange.com to see the types of lamps than can be exchanged, or they can call 800 (865-6483) for more information.
