VICTORVILLE, Calif., June 10, 2005–In conjunction with road work scheduled by San Bernardino County, Southern California Edison (SCE) announced today it will begin next month a project to bolster the utility’s infrastructure and equipment in the Spring Valley Lake area.

Starting in July, contract crews for SCE will be installing underground duct work for electrical cables and equipment on 13 streets.  This work will be the first step in a five-year project to improve the utility’s electric infrastructure.  SCE has launched a multi-billion dollar infrastructure investment program to replace parts of its aging infrastructure encompassing 50,000 square miles and to keep pace with customer growth and the rising demand for electricity.

The work, which is not expected to cause any service interruptions, is being coordinated with the county, which has a five-year program to resurface streets with a slurry seal.  Residents on the affected streets should be prepared to deal with traffic diversions, increased noise, heavy construction equipment, worker vehicles, and restricted parking.

SCE will mail notifications to residents before specific streets are worked on.  The work will occur on portions of Alta Vista Dr., Autumn Leaves Ave., Canyon Meadow Rd., Cedar Lane, Cumberland Way, Garden Glen Rd., Joshua Tree Lane, Pebble Beach Dr., Rancho Bonita Rd., Sage Hen Rd., Tamarisk Rd., Yellowstone Ave., and Candleberry Lane.

“We regret any inconvenience this work might cause customers, “said Nancy Jackson, SCE public affairs region manager.  “But this project is the first step in improving electric reliability for the area and reducing power interruptions.”

Jackson added that conditions and situations unrelated to the road work—a vehicle hitting a pole, a lightning strike, equipment failure, etc.—could cause a service interruption.   When interruptions occur, SCE will re-energize customers as quickly as possible, Jackson said.
