ROSEMEAD, Calif., May 2, 2014 — California State University, Fullerton professor Ding-Jo H. Currie, Ph.D., joins Southern California Edison (SCE) in celebrating its business and community partnerships, serving as keynote speaker today at SCE’s ninth annual Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebration.

“Celebrating Business & Community Partnerships” is the theme of the event held at SCE’s Energy Education Center in Irwindale. This year’s celebration also highlights SCE’s investment and contribution to higher education, particularly Asian recipients of the Edison Scholars Program.

“Our annual Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month event is our opportunity to show our appreciation to the communities we serve,” said Lisa Cagnolatti, vice president of SCE’s Business Customer Division. “Our partnerships with our business and community leaders are the cornerstone of service we provide to our customers.”

Keynote speaker Dr. Currie has been an advocate and champion of higher education in the California Community College system for more than 30 years. She served as president of Coastline Community College from 2002-2009 and retired from the Coast Community College District, where she was chancellor from 2009-2011. Dr. Currie also previously served as assistant superintendent/vice president of Economic and Community Development at Rio Hondo College in Whittier.

In addition, SCE’s award recipients are:

  • Energy Efficiency Participation Award – Din Tai Fung, USA.  Accepting the award is Frank Yang, CEO; Aaron Yang, general manager; Paul Yeh, BCD account manager; and Johnathan Van, SCE account manager.
  • Energy Efficiency Participation Award – Lollicup USA, Inc.  Accepting the award is Alan Yu, president and CEO; Paul Yeh, BCD account manager; and Andrew Lee, SCE, New Construction Services.
  • Community Partnership Award – Khmer Girls in Action.  Accepting the award is Lian Cheun, executive director; Zoe Pruong-McCreery, operations manager; and Patricia Tin, KGA alumni.
  • Diverse Business Enterprise Award – Southern States LLC.  Accepting the award is Raj Anand, president and CEO; and Armando Elvira, MKI representative.
