Site features online home energy survey

ROSEMEAD, Calif., Nov. 3, 2004—Southern California Edison (SCE) announced today it has launched the most extensive Chinese language Web site maintained by a California electric utility.
The site, available at www.sce.com, contains 50 pages of Chinese language information for both homeowners and businesses, including energy and money-saving suggestions and account-management tools.
“We want to simplify doing business with SCE and this is one way to make it easier for our Chinese-speaking customers,” said Rutely Conde, manager of customer and ethnic communications. “Chinese-speaking customers now have information about the money-saving programs and services we offer in their own language.”
Currently, about 53% of Chinese-speaking customers in SCE’s service territory have Internet access.
By visiting the Web site, customers can take an in-language energy survey for their home that will show them which electric appliances use the most electricity and how to lower their energy bill. Customers can determine online if they qualify for a 20% discount on their electric rates through the California Alternate Rates for Energy program, known as CARE. Information is also available in-language on “Medical Baseline” rates for specific medical conditions and programs to assist income-qualified customers.
“Our new Chinese Web site has pages on understanding your electric bill, energy-efficient products like compact fluorescent light bulbs, pool pumps and refrigerators, rebates on energy-efficient business equipment, and streaming videos on electricity safety,” Conde added.
SCE also has launched a Spanish-language Web site and is preparing similar sites in Korean and Vietnamese. To view SCE’s multi-language Web sites, visit www.sce.com and click on “Other Languages.”
