ROSEMEAD, Calif., June 17, 2005 — Southern California Edison (SCE) is offering increased incentives and rebates to help the utility’s residential customers save energy and money this summer.

Incentives for turning in an old working (cooling) freezer have increased from $35 to $50, and rebates for installing a qualifying energy-efficient central air conditioner have jumped from $425 to $625.  Rebates on whole house fans have increased from $100 to $150, and customers can still receive $35 for turning in an old working (cooling) refrigerator.

SCE also offers a $50 rebate for the purchase of a new ENERGY STAR®-rated refrigerator, so customers can receive up to $85 for turning in their old, working refrigerator and installing a new ENERGY STAR-rated model.  Installing an energy-efficient pool pump and motor provides a rebate of up to $300.

“Older, less efficient appliances use far more energy than newer, ENERGY STAR®-rated appliances,” said John Nall, manager of SCE’s residential energy efficiency programs.  “And we try to make it easy for customers to take advantage of our rebates and incentives.  For example, when customers turn in an old refrigerator or freezer, we haul it away for free.”

SCE customers who conserve energy this summer can qualify for additional savings.  Customers who reduce their energy usage by 20% this summer (over last summer) will receive a 20% credit on their first winter bill as part of SCE’s 20/20 Summer Savings Program.  An important tool to help customers qualify for the 20/20 program is SCE’s Online Home Energy Survey, which provides customers with personalized recommendations to help them lower their energy usage.

“With hot summer days ahead, we’re encouraging all of our customers to conserve energy and cash in on these increased savings,” Nall added.

Rebates and incentives are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information call (800) 736-4777 or visit www.sce.com and click on “Rebates & Savings.”
