Employees continue to support community causes.

ROSEMEAD Calif., Jan. 20, 2003-Continuing their long-standing commitment to the communities in which they live and work, Edison International (EIX) employees contributed $3.2 million to the 2002-2003 employee contributions campaign.  The Edison International companies include Southern California Edison, Edison Mission Energy, and Edison Capital.

That total includes $2,980,661 in pledges and $231,262 from fundraisers held during the year.  More than 7,500 employees participated in the contributions campaign, which will benefit more than 3,250 nonprofit organizations chosen by employees to receive their donations.

"Our employees responded remarkably well in surpassing the ambitious goal set for the campaign," said John Bryson, EIX chairman, president and CEO.  "In keeping with Edison's commitment to responsible corporate citizenship, employees have helped the company make a real and measurable contribution toward building healthier and more vibrant communities.  Their success is a perfect example of the employee dedication and hard work that reflects our company values."

In addition to opening up their wallets, Edison employees roll up their sleeves to assist people in need and help maintain a cleaner environment through year-round voluntary activities.  Each year, employees, retirees, their families and friends, plan, organize and participate in the company's "Follow Your Heart " projects, which encourage them to adopt a community project and lend a helping hand.

Last year, more than 1,200 Edison volunteers were involved in 50 community volunteer projects in 38 Southern California cities benefiting a wide variety of nonprofit organizations, including the "Light the Night Walk," which raised money for the Leukemia & Lymphona Society; a day refurbishing Camp Ronald McDonald; and supporting a food and clothing drive for low-income families at the Southwest Community Center in Santa Ana.

"The success of the Edison campaign shows once again that our employees' hearts are in the right place," said Beverly Ryder, EIX vice president of community involvement.  "Whether donating their money or personal time, Edison employees have provided support for a myriad of nonprofit, educational and charitable organizations located in their communities."
