ROSEMEAD, Calif., Sept. 23, 2003—Mahvash Yazdi, currently senior vice president of Technology and chief information officer at Edison International and its electric utility, Southern California Edison (SCE), has assumed an expanded role of business integration for the utility.  Her new responsibilities include Edison’s Shared Services as well as global information technology functions.  In addition, Ms. Yazdi will be able to identify opportunities to integrate business systems and processes for SCE.

“We believe applying Mahvash’s capable leadership to this new approach to these key business support functions will enhance the operational performance of our company,” said Alan Fohrer, SCE’s chief executive officer.

Under Yazdi’s leadership, Edison has consistently ranked as one of the “Best Places to Work in IT” as rated by Computerworld, and has been recognized as a top IT innovator by Information Week.  Additionally, Yazdi was named one of Computerworld’s “Premier 100” IT leaders in 2002.

Edison’s Information Technology unit, made up of 1,300 employees, manages 14,500 desktops and laptops, 700 distribution servers, two corporate data centers, five networks, 25,000 phone extensions, 26,000 packet radios, 9,000 pagers, plus 1,520 miles of fiber and 5,000 miles of microwave, 800 applications, 39 terabytes of structured data, and print and insertion of 250,000 customer mailings per day.

The company’s Shared Services group, composed of 700 employees, provides business units with professional support including procurement and material management services, real estate and facilities management, corporate security and emergency preparedness, as well as utility office services, safety, and transportation services.

Yazdi is a resident of Palos Verdes where she lives with her family.
